Historical Association Virtual Conference FAQs

The pre-recorded element of the sessions will become available on the Historical Association website www.history.org.uk from early May 2021. These can be accessed through your user account in My HA. It is essential that you watch the pre-recordings before taking part in the corresponding live sessions.

Live sessions will be hosted using Zoom Meetings. Live keynote workshops will be hosted using Zoom Webinars.

The live element of the conference will be hosted on Zoom. If you haven’t used Zoom before, we recommend you register for a free account here and download the software onto your computer or device in preparation for the live element of the conference. If you already have a Zoom account, please make sure you have downloaded the most recent update of the software.

For the best experience we recommend participating on a computer or tablet rather than a smartphone.

Yes. All HA members will have access to the recordings on My HA using their membership login details, but you do not need to be a HA member to access the conference. If you are a non-member, on registering for the conference you will be given a user account if you do not already have one.

All meetings are encrypted with AES 256 bit GCM encryption. Zoom have made end-to-end encryption of meetings available to create a highly secure meeting environment. The HA Virtual Conference will be passcode protected and the waiting room feature will be applied to ensure the meeting is secure.

Booking will open in March 2021 and will be open until 29 May 2021. However, please note that if you book after 24 May 2021 you may miss live sessions. In the meantime, you can register your interest by emailing conference@history.org.uk.

Yes, you can book at any time for the conference. However, please note that it may take 1 working day for your pre-recorded sessions to appear in My HA if you book after they have been published.

Please note that you need to have watched the pre-recorded sessions to be able to make the most of the live Q&A sessions since the two are related.

Yes, you can book for the conference and not watch the live sessions if preferred.

We ask you not to do this, the HA conference has limited pre-booked spaces available. Each person will be listed individually and allowed into the conference only if they are registered to attend.
You do not need to book a session for all the live slots available but to help us manage numbers, please indicate on the booking form that you do not wish to attend at a particular time.

Pre-recorded sessions

The pre-recorded element of the sessions will be available on the Historical Association website via My HA from early May 2021 until the end of the summer holidays. If you intend to participate in the live element of the conference, it is essential that you view the relevant recordings before attending your chosen live sessions in order to make the most of the live sessions.

The pre-recorded presentations will be available on the Historical Association website and can be accessed through your user account in My HA. If you register before they are published, they will appear in your My HA as soon as they are released. If not, we will try and give you access as soon as possible after you register but this may take 1 working day.

You do not need to be a member to access the conference, but you will need a user account in order to view the recordings on the HA website.

Live sessions

All links to access your registered sessions will be emailed to you by 7 days prior to the first day of the live conference, if you have registered before this time. If you register after this time, they will be sent within 1 working day.

If you haven’t received this email by [date] please call +44 (0) 1904 702165 or email conference@history.org.uk.

If you are having trouble accessing the event on the day, please call +44 (0) 1904 702165 or email conference@history.org.uk.

During the live sessions, delegates will be able to ask questions, although most questions will not be answered until the end of each session. Please be aware speakers will do their best to answer all questions but depending on volume and other activities planned for the live element this may not be possible.

The Exam boards panel session will take a combination of questions in advance (those generic to all exam boards) and live questions in the breakout sessions specific to each exam board.

In general, the live element of the conference will not be recorded or available after the conference takes place.

This is with the exception of the keynote lectures, which will be recorded and made available to view in the same location as the pre-recorded sessions on the HA website in summer 2021.
