Historical Association Virtual Conference FAQs

  • What platform will the conference be held on?

Pre-recorded sessions will be available to view at https://www.haconference.com/session-recordings from Monday 2 November. Please use the password provided in your confirmation email to access these. It is essential that you watch the pre-recordings before taking part in the live Q&A sessions.

Live Q&A sessions will be hosted using Zoom Meetings. Live keynote workshops will be hosted using Zoom Webinars. Please note: the Ronald Hutton Keynote session on Thursday 12 November will be available in the pre-recorded sessions and not be live.

  • Do I need to have a Zoom account to access the conference?

If you haven’t used Zoom before we would recommend you register for a free account here and download the software onto your computer or device in preparation for the live element of the conference. For the best experience we recommend participating on a computer or tablet rather than a smartphone.  If you already have a Zoom account please make sure you have downloaded the most recent update of the software.

  • How secure is Zoom?

All meetings are encrypted with AES 256 bit GCM encryption. Zoom have made end-to-end encryption of meetings available to create a highly secure meeting environment. The HA Virtual Conference will be passcode protected and the waiting room feature will be applied to ensure the meeting is secure.

  • Can I book on the day of the conference?

Yes, you can book at any time for the conference but you need to have watched the pre-recorded sessions to be able to make the most of the live Q&A sessions since the two are related.

  • Can I book for the conference but not attend the live Q&As?

Yes, you can book for the conference and not watch the live Q&As if preferred.

  • Can I share my HA virtual conference login information with other colleagues?

We ask you not to do this, the HA conference has limited pre-booked spaces available. Each person will be listed individually and allowed into the conference only if they are registered to attend. With that said, there is nothing stopping you from allowing your colleagues to enjoy the conference right next to you from wherever you are viewing the event!

Live Q&A sessions

  • Will there be an opportunity to ask questions during the live Q&A sessions?

We are encouraging delegates to submit questions for the live Q&As in advance of the sessions using SurveyMonkey: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/haconf20-questions. Please ensure you submit any questions no later than Monday 9 November 2020.

The Discussion with the Exam boards session will take a combination of questions in advance (those generic to all exam boards) and live questions in the breakout sessions specific to each exam board.

During the Q&A delegates will be able to ask questions through the Q&A and chat function on Zoom, although most questions will not be answered until the end of each session. Please be aware speakers will do their best to answer all questions but depending on volume this may not be possible.
