About us

The Historical Association exists to support the study and enjoyment of history. For more than 100 years we have worked to broaden the appeal of an engaging, exciting and living discipline that reviews and reexamines the past, to incorporate new scholarship and insight. We have a firm commitment to academic rigour and a uniquely member-led approach, with a lively network of local branches.

We enable access to specialist knowledge for a broad range of people including teachers, pupils, academics and enthusiasts. By connecting trained historians to a wider audience, we help to foster a deeper understanding of history, and historical research to support shared passions, and inspire much-needed dialogue and debate. We do this through online and in-person events, meetings, courses, professional CPD and publications with captivating guest speakers, writers, and academic historians throughout the year. As the advocate for the study of history for all young people in UK schools and support life-long learning opportunities. We provide resources and advice for primary, secondary, further education teachers and researchers. to help encourage and inspire future historians. As ‘the voice for history’ we champion the importance of history.
