We are delighted to host the Historical Association Annual Conference as a hybrid event again. This will give delegates the opportunity to choose to attend on Friday 12 & Saturday 13 May 2023 virtually or in-person at the DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa. 

 Please find below some FAQs for In-person delegates and Virtual delegates to assist with your planning.

When can I book for the conference?
Booking remains open from now until Wednesday 10 May 2023 or until the conference is sold out for in-person bookings. In the meantime, you can register your interest by emailing conference@history.org.uk.
What happens if I cannot attend in-person at the last minute?

All in-person delegates, excluding presenters, will be able to move to attend virtually at any point. You will be required to contact conference@history.org.uk.

Who do I contact if I do not receive the joining instructions?

If you haven’t received the full joining instructions via email by Friday 5 May 2023, please call +44 (0) 1904 702165 or email conference@history.org.uk.

Choosing your sessions

Can I change sessions?

On signing up for the in-person conference you will be required to select the sessions you would like to attend. At any time leading up to the event you can change your mind and opt to do another session, provided it has not been fully booked.

Please click here, add your email and confirmation number and you can re-select your choices. Please note if your choice doesn’t appear in the list, it means that this session is fully booked.

Will the recordings be made available after the conference?

All sessions marked with the virtual icon that fall within the virtual programme will be recorded. These will be made available to view on demand for delegates that have added this to their booking and paid the additional £40 inc VAT. These will be available to view post-event ‘on demand’ until Friday 28 July 2023.

How do I access the recordings?

All recordings will be hosted within Oxford Abstracts. You will be sent a link to access this in advance of the event.  When logging in to view the content simply enter the password you will be given.

How do I watch back the recordings?

Each virtual session will be listed within the online programme within Oxford Abstracts, you simply select the one you want to watch and click the view button.

How do I promote the event on social media and what is the hashtag for the event?

Please feel free to post about the event using #HAConf23 @histassoc and direct anybody that is interested to www.haconference.com.

Will I receive a CPD certificate after the event?

CPD certificates will be provided for all attendees as a download within the post-event email.

Can I book for the conference but not attend the live sessions?

Yes, you can book for the conference and not watch the live sessions and just access the content on demand post-event up until Friday 28 July 2023.

What happens if I change my mind and want to attend in-person?

Subject to there being places still available you can move to attend in-person up until Wednesday 10 May 2023. Please email conference@history.org.uk in order to arrange this. You will be required to pay the difference in the cost of the ticket.

What platform will the conference be held on?

The live sessions will be hosted using Zoom Webinars. You will access this via Oxford Abstracts, by registering to attend the conference you will be automatically set up with access.

How do I log in?

In order to log in to Oxford Abstracts, you will be sent a link to access this in advance and simply enter a password. 

Do I need to have a Zoom account to access the conference?

The live element of the conference will be hosted on Zoom. If you haven’t used Zoom before, we recommend you register for a free account here and download the software onto your computer or device in preparation for the live element of the conference. If you already have a Zoom account, please make sure you have downloaded the most recent update of the software.

For the best experience we recommend participating on a computer or tablet rather than a smartphone. 

How secure is Zoom?

All meetings are encrypted with AES 256 bit GCM encryption. Zoom have made end-to-end encryption of meetings available to create a highly secure meeting environment. The HA Conference will only be available to those that have registered to attend.

Signing up for sessions

As a virtual delegate there is no need to sign up in advance to which virtual session you want to attend.  Simply log in and select on the day which session you would like to attend, and you can change your mind and join another if you choose at the last minute.

Joining the live sessions

When will I receive joining instructions for the live sessions?

You will be sent final joining instructions with a link to access the platform by Friday 5 May 2023, if you have registered before this time. If you register after this time, this will be sent within your confirmation email immediately.

I cannot access the event, what should I do?

How do I join a session?

When logging into Oxford Abstracts the programme will load, simply click on the session you want to join, then press the join button that will show at the top of this page which will connect you to the Zoom webinar session.

Will there be an opportunity to ask questions during the live sessions?

During the live sessions, delegates will be able to ask questions, although most questions will not be answered until the end of each session. Please be aware speakers will do their best to answer all questions but depending on volume and other activities planned for the live element this may not be possible.
